New home of the Gold Mine -The Orsett Hall
Welcome to the Official Gold Mine Website.
Voted by The Soul Survivor Magazine in the "top 3 best soul night outside London" category.
From 1973 The Gold Mine nightclub was made famous as the UK's number one night spot in
the 70s & 80s for its Jazz, Funk and Soul music. Sadly the original club was demolished in 1989.
Now it's back...With the launch of a new Jazz, Funk and Soul club night at it's new home, The Orsett Hall Hotel, Orsett. Essex. The nights will happen quarterly and you can find the dates on our events page with direct ticket booking access. The original nightclub is pictured here >>>>
"My name is Steve Abbs and I've finally done something I've wanted to do for many years and that is to bring the Gold Mine name back “officially” and as a prominent night in the Jazz, Funk and Soul calendar. The original club was a mecca for people from far around, the "Soul Family" came from all over the country to enjoy the music, people and ambiance. Along with my longstanding friend and business partner Simon Croft, we both have a long history of soul Djing at some of Essex’s pubs and clubs from the early 80s. Its about picking up this legacy and to preserve it going forward for everyone to enjoy. People who genuinely love the music will be treated to one of the best locations in UK for this type of night. The events will be called "5 Star Soul at The Gold Mine, The Orsett Hall Hotel", it says everything about the nights, top DJ's, top music, top location, top funkers ! It establishes the Goldmine name again where it should be, at the very top of the tree !"
In Essex especially there has been an explosion of many Jazz, Funk & Soul nights, Soul weekenders and internet radio stations that have between them revitalised the scene & opened it up to a much wider audience, attracting many younger followers to help cement the musical following.
So, come on and join us on our adventure and send us your photos, tell us your stories, join us on Facebook and Twitter, lets "Keep the Soul alive!"
